Saudi Arabia / The trademark guide
Protect your brand.
Start with the right mark.
A trademark distinguishes your goods or services. Choose the owner, check the mark and define what it covers before applying to the Saudi Authority for Intellectual Property (SAIP).

01 / Make the early decisions
The owner. The mark.
The goods or services.
Resolve these before committing to packaging, signage or a brand launch.
Who will own it?
Decide whether the applicant is the individual, Saudi company or overseas parent. Keep the ownership decision separate from who operates the business.
Eligible foreign owners can apply. Applicants without a Saudi domicile use a locally registered trademark agent.

Search names, spellings and similar-looking marks—not only exact matches. Decide whether to protect a word, a logo or both through the appropriate filings.
A clear search is not approval. Generic wording, prohibited elements and conflicting marks can prevent registration.

List the actual goods and services, then choose the relevant Nice classes. A class number alone does not describe the protection you need.
Plan fees by mark and class. Do not assume one filing covers every class or another country.
Check the Nice Classification ↗ (opens in a new tab)Your CR, trade name and domain do not automatically register the brand with SAIP. Company formation and trademark protection are separate processes.
Company registration guide02 / Prepare one consistent application
Define the brand.
Support the ownership.
Confirm the current SAIP checklist for your applicant and mark. This is a reading aid, not a document upload.
03 / Follow the application
From filing
to a registered mark.
The normal uncontested route. Amendments, objections or appeals add steps; submitting is not registration.

SAIP: process & published fees ↗ (opens in a new tab)SAIP lists 90 days for the service; the examination rules also specify a 90-day review period. Publication, responses and final payment are separate stages—not a guaranteed 90-day completion date.
04 / Keep the protection useful
Registration is a start.
Keep the rights in order.
Keep the certificate, filing record and actual expiry date together.
Put renewal in your diary
10 yearsProtection runs from the filing date once registered. Apply to renew during the final year of protection.
A further six-month renewal window is available with higher fees. Do not plan around late renewal; use the expiry recorded by SAIP.
SAIP: renewal & fees · Arabic ↗ (opens in a new tab)Use it & keep evidence
Retain dated examples of genuine use. Five consecutive years of non-use without a legitimate reason can expose a mark to court-ordered cancellation.
Update the record
Review owner, address and agent changes. Record transfers correctly and document licences when another business uses the mark.
Watch for conflicts
Keep evidence of suspected misuse and seek qualified advice promptly. Registration does not monitor the market or resolve disputes for you.
A different asset?
Not all IP is a trademark.
Creative workConsider copyright.
A technical inventionConsider a patent.

From a brand idea to a prepared application
Bring the name and the plan.
We’ll help organise the next step.
Share the proposed owner, mark and goods or services. Agree preparation, coordination and any licensed-agent representation separately. SAIP decides registration; support is not an approval guarantee.

Targeted review of Saudi trademark filing, representation, classification, published registration fees, opposition and renewal. This is general orientation, not a trademark clearance opinion or a complete IP/legal assessment.
Sources open in a new tab; PDFs and Arabic pages are labelled. The SAIP-hosted law includes Arabic text and an unofficial English translation. Check your application’s notices and the current requirements before acting.
The regulations start from a single-class application and allow multiple classes subject to authority approval. This guide does not promise that multi-class filing is available for every application.
